MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION FOR JUSTICE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS

Regular Member

An attorney of good moral character and duly licensed to practice law by the State of Mississippi, who subscribes to the purpose of MAJ and whose caseload, time, and/or income through the practice of law is not comprised, either individually or through a firm, of thirty percent (30%) or more representing civil defendants in Tort cases or representing governments in criminal prosecutions. 

 

Out-of-State Member 

An attorney of good moral character who is not a member of The Mississippi State Bar, but shares the goals of this association and who otherwise qualifies for membership as a Regular member. Out-of-State members shall have no vote, nor will they be eligible to hold office in the Association. 

 

Public Defender

An attorney of good moral character, who practices as a full-time public defender and shares the goals of this Association. Public Defenders are considered voting members. These individuals are eligible to vote and/or hold office in the Association. 

 

Associate Member 

An attorney of good moral character and duly licensed to practice law by the State of Mississippi, or of the state of the attorney’s residence, and whose practice or their firm’s practices are comprised of thirty percent (30%) or more defending cases on behalf of insurance companies, or attorneys employed on behalf of any government agency other than criminal defense attorneys, or attorneys or individuals whose employment or affiliation is with groups whose missions are compatible with those of the MAJ. Associate members shall have no vote, nor will they be eligible to hold office in the Association

 

Paralegal/ Legal Assistant 

An individual who is engaged as an auxiliary to the practice of law which is consistent with the objectives of this Association. Must be sponsored by a voting member in good standing with the Association. Paralegal/ Legal Assistant members shall have no vote, nor will they be eligible to hold office in the Association.

 

Law Student

A law student engaged in a course of study at an accredited Mississippi law school who is interested in the trial practice of law.

 


 

Please note that all memberships must go through a verification process followed by review and approval of our executive committee. If you submit an application with the incorrect membership type, MAJ reserves the right to adjust your membership category and fee accordingly.
